How to: Perform Infant CPR
Infant child CPR certification is essential for any caregiver. Even today, there is a significant number of caregivers who have never even taken any course related to Child and Infant CPR and will be helpless in a medical emergency.

Here are some basic steps which are taught in infant child CPR certification
Child CPR
- Give 30 chest compressions, you can use one or two hands it’s up to you. For one-handed compressions, push down hard & fast on center of chest using heel of the hand. If using two-handed compressions, push down fast and hard on the center of the chest with the heel of one hand and place the other hand over the top of the first hand
- Push down at least 2 inches and give at least 100-120 compressions per minute. Also allow full upper body recoil between each compression.
- Give two rescue breaths & make sure that the head is tilted back & chin is lifted. Pinch the nose closed & cover the mouth with yours in order to form a complete seal. Blow inside the victim’s mouth for about a second and take a look if the chest rise. If the chest doesn’t rise, give another breath. If breaths still don’t go in, continue another set of 30 compressions.
Infant CPR
- For infants, use 2 fingers giving 30 compressions. Push down hard and fast in the center of the chest.
- Push down 1.5 inches at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. Make sure to let the chest recoil fully between compressions.
- Give two rescue breaths & make sure that the head is tilted slightly back in a neutral position. Pinch the nose closed & cover the mouth with yours in order to form a complete seal. Blow inside the victim’s mouth for about a second and take a look if the chest rise. If the chest doesn’t rise, give another breath.
